What it does
- Quick start — three cells: salary, state (or county/city), filing status. Take-home per year, month and paycheck appear right below in large type.
- Compare two offers — state and salary for offer A and offer B: yearly and monthly take-home, total taxes, state + local tax, effective rate, and the difference B − A.
- 2026 rules — federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, state income tax, local tax for Maryland, Indiana and New York City, and state employee payroll contributions (paid leave, disability) where they apply.
- Details when you need them — hourly pay, pay frequency and 401(k) % on the Calculator sheet; per-paycheck and annual summary sheets.
- Open tables — every bracket and rate sits in a visible sheet with its official source link (IRS, SSA, state revenue departments), checked October 19, 2026. Formulas only, no macros.

Checked to the cent
We recalculated the workbook formulas and compared every output with our tax engine: 1,248 single cases, 144 two-offer comparisons and 18 free-version cases, 0 differences.
We also asked a free AI chatbot (Gemini) the same five questions with the same assumptions. It missed the yearly take-home in all five:

Assumptions and limits
- W-2 wages, the standard deduction, one earner on a joint return.
- Local taxes only for Maryland, Indiana and New York City.
- Built with eight common functions (AND, IF, INDEX, MATCH, MAX, MIN, ROUND, SUMPRODUCT), all in Google Sheets' function list, so it should also work after importing into Google Sheets. We have checked the formulas by recalculation, not by opening the file in Google Sheets.
Estimates for planning, not tax advice.
